Fear Grip Dzodze Residents As Human Parts Disappear in St Anthony's Hospital Morgue

 Residents of Dzodze in the Ketu North Municipal capital of the Volta Region have expressed worries about missing human part of their relatives who were sent to the Dzodze St Anthony's hospital mortuary for preservations.

 

In the recent development, relatives of Madam Abla Ahiamata, who died on Friday March 5,2021 at Ablorme Kokonugbe, a suburb of the district capital and the body deposited at the facility, were thrown into a state of shock when they visited the facility to check on their decease but noticed her left eye was plucked off.

 

Mr. John Zigah, the Unit Committee Member who assisted the family to deposit the corpse told the Finder Newspaper reporter that, he was very surprised and saddened this happened at the facility adding that, he tried to report the development to the hospital authorities but when all effort proved futile, he moved further to report the case to the Dzodze District Police command.

                                                                                                               

The Ketu North Police Commander, DSP Christian Dogbatsey, confirmed the happening to our reporter adding that, this is the second case reported to his command within two weeks regarding similar development.

 

He narrated that, on February 24 this year, the administrator of St Anthony’s hospital reported to the station the body of a 68-year-old patient, Ms. Eyi Yakanu, who died at the hospital was deposited at the morgue but on the 16 February, check on her body reveals that both eyes were plucked off and the flesh of her forehead also peeled off.

 

He said about two weeks later, on March 8, Mr. John Zigah also reported to the station that, a body of his relative late Ms. Ahiamata Abla whose body was deposited on the 5th of March had her left eye plucked off after three days of visit.

 

According to the commander, a total of 10 suspects have been picked up and granted bail by the Dzodze police in connection with the happenings, 5 each from the February 24 and March 8 incident respectively.

 

He said, all the 10 suspects included some security personnel, Mortuary attendants and staff from the facility and are currently assisting in investigation.

 

Even though investigations are not yet concluded, he suspected that, the action might have been done for some ritual purpose in a time where there is a rampant incidents of money ritual popularly called sakawa.

 

He further called on all residents to help provide the police with information to aid in the arrest of the perpetrators of these crime as he observed that, residents in the Ketu North municipality have been helpful to the District command in fighting crime in the municipality.

 

However, the Keta-Akatsi Catholic Diocesan Health Directorate and the Management team of the hospital said, they are collaborating with the Dzodze District Police Command to unravel the mystery surrounding the disappearance of the body parts in the facility’s mortuary.

 

Reverend Fr Lt Col WDK Sraha (RTD), the Director-Diocesan Health Service, described the development as shameful and shocking as he assured the families and the general public that, stringent measures are put in place by management to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to book.

 

According to Rev Fr Sraha, management cannot conclude prematurely that, the incident is an act of human involvement but to rely on reports from the Ghana Police Service and other scientific investigative reports to establish the fact behind the incident.

 

He explained that, three different investigative teams have been set up by their outfit to help the police speed up investigation as well as a service of a Pathology from the 37 military hospital, Accra, employed to examine the bodies for thorough investigations.

 

He said March 19,2021 have been given as deadline to the internal investigative team to report their findings to management for further action.

 

“we encouraged the community and staffs of the facility to provide Management and the Police any possible leads that can support our investigation to find out the people involved in these unethical acts, if it is a human activity” he pleaded.

 

He further assured the general public that, the facility is safe for public patronage
