The Ghana Government Pensioners’ Association
in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region have climaxed their activities for
this year with the ‘End of Year Get-Together Party’ and a fundraising ceremony.
The fundraising according to them was for the
commencement of a storey building project initiated by the Association.
They said, the ceremony will help foster unity
as well as present a platform to share ideas and also take strides toward the
growth and development of the association.
The Chairman of the association, Reverend
Prof. William Opare said, the Association have made efforts to support
education as part of their corporate responsibility in the municipality, adding
that they are formulating effective plans to cooperate with some educational
institutions in the country to aid them with the initiative.
He stated that the association has also taken
steps to put up a three-flat building with offices early next year to empower
all pensioners in contributing to the growth and development of the
municipality as well as equipping pensioners with temporal jobs.
Reverend Prof. Opare further for government’s
support with funds toward the commencement of the project.
He also appealed to the government to increase
their meager pension allowances.
The Volta Regional Operations Commander of
Police, Michael Awumey lauded the leaders of the association for their
remarkable efforts made to develop the society as well as putting smiles on the
face of other pensioners in the municipality.
