The Volta Regional Minister Dr.
Yao Archibald Letsa has charged the Municipal and District Chief Executives and
Supervisors to monitor drivers of the new ambulances in their respective
Municipal and Districts closely to ensure that, the ambulances are put to their
desire use but shouldn’t carry things for customs to worry them.
He directed the Municipal and
District Chief Executives to take a special personal interest in the management
of the ambulances to ensure that Officers and Supervisors of the National
Ambulance service effectively supervise and monitor the operation of the
Ambulances.
Dr. Letsa send this warning at
the handing over ceremony of a total of Eighteen (18) New ambulances funded by
the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives to be distributed to the
various municipal and Districts assemblies across the Volta Region in the
regional capital Ho.
According to the Minster, the
ceremony is to officially handover the buses to the MDA’s after the
commissioning of them at the national level by the President of the republic of
Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
He said, he and the good people
of the Volta Region as well as other regions are happy this unique intervention
by government has brought a great relief to us adding that many lives which
have been needlessly loss as a result of lack of ambulances will become a thing
of the past.
He debunk issues making rounds
that he is re-commissioning the ambulances assigned to the Volta Region saying
he is only handing over the buses to the various MDA’s.
“There is nothing wrong with the
ambulances coming to the Regional Coordinating Council for us to receive them
and hand them over to be taken care off by the Assemblies. Anybody
who criticize this has a problem and needs to be taken to Synagogue for
deliverance ” he said.
He said when a president
commissions at the national level, the people of Ghana, many of whom might not
have watched on television or read newspapers also needs to know what has
happened as he noted that, this has never happened in the history of the Volta
Region before.
He noted that the provision of
the ambulances is not only in fulfillment of a promise but also in fulfillment of
government commitment to equipping the National Ambulance Service to
effectively respond to emergencies
He said prior to the
commissioning of these 307 ambulances, the national ambulances service has only
55 ambulances serving the entire country which he said was woefully inadequate
with the Volta Region having only one (1) serving the entire region.
He further commended the
commanding officer of the 66 Artinary Regiment for being of a great help to the
region with their ambulance in times of emergency.
”last week we had an emergency in
Kpando and we have to be struggling with ambulances to send this senior public
officer to Korlebu for medical treatment. We had an accident and had to bring
an ambulance from police hospital to carry the people to the police hospital,
so when a government has decided to give us eighteen (18) ambulances and we
don’t want to be happy about it, what can this be called?” He lamented.
He again advised the drivers on
issues of over speeding and any form of careless driving saying if this is done, we can ensure that the Ambulances remain long enough on our roads to serve our
people.
"The drivers must also respond
properly to all calls and requests in order to save lives" he said
