The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) Regional chairperson for Eastern and Volta, Mr. Dela Gadzanku, has opined that Ghana has the power to build the economy of our choice or leave our economic to chance adding that whichever way to choose to do it, the onus lies on us.

He was speaking at the launch of the 4^th edition of the Volta trade fair in the Volta regional capital, Ho.

According to Mr. Gadzanku, “The Volta trade fair opens vast ocean of business possibilities for boosting the regional economy of Volta region”

He observed that, the successful hosting and organizing of Volta fair and the investment forum goes a long way to further affirm the Volta Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to making the private sector the engine of growth.

He said, AGI appreciate highly Government decision not to introduce new task in 2020 budget statement, the power supply situation has improved.

“The growth of local industries requires micro economic stability and a tailor-made fiscal policy to drive an industrial boom. Local businesses carry out for a deep commitment from government in order to chart a competitive path for companies to thieve”. He stated

He said, this requires a re-engineering of the current task regime which presents major constraint to industrial growth and profitability.

He urged the government to seriously review the current 50% reduction in benchmark value for import that woefully renders our local industries uncompetitive in the business landscape adding that if constraints are not placed on important of commodities locally produced here, there will be a huge leakage of profit to offshore companies.

He revealed that, many businesses are struggling to match up to the game and this isn’t healthy for our economy.

“Ghana can only build a competitive economy in the Africa Continental free trade area only under a carefully attention to the “killer bugs” that weaken our competitiveness and export profits away”.

He said, The successful development of the government’s industrial agenda on the 1D1F hinges on the augmented effect of the local citizens and active participation of key industrial actors.

“In the last few days, there has been an aggressive campaign by the various stakeholders for the growing and consumption of local rice. AGI wishes to humbly appeal to government to consider support local rice farmers especially those in the Volta region, which has the potential to become the rice basket of the sub-region, by extending credit lines to them at flexible terms our interaction with most of them, cite lack of funds as a major challenge”. Mr. Gadzanku

He further requested for Ghana investment Promotion centre to consider an office in Ho, Kofodidua and Dambai as he noted that, the opening of this office will afford local businesses promoters the opportunity engage such as a key stakeholder in driving FDIS to the respective regions.
