The
Assistance Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO) in the Ketu North
Municipality of the Volta Region, Mr. Samuel Yao Mensah Amegbletor, has stopped
citizens of Dzodze Ablorme from dumping rubbish in an authorized place.
According to him, residence has
taken it upon themselves to dump rubbish just right behind the toilet in the
area which in his view is improper hence the need to stop them.
He said the sting from the toilet as
well as the refuge dump (Adukpo) is unbearable for other citizens living some few
meters away.
He noted that, the situation however
put people’s lives at risk in the whole community and it is his duty to make
sure the health of the people is secured.
Speaking further, he stated that the
Ablorme community has a dustbin but they said they do not have a land for it to
be placed so they left the dustbin at "Dzesime", an area far from
them.
“What I did was to tell them (citizens)
to be sending the rubbish to where the dustbin is since they don’t have a land
to keep the dustbin close to them” he added..
He observed that since he stopped
the citizens from dumping the wastes in that unauthorized place, he is yet to
see the authorities including the Assembly Member and the Chief of the area
confront him so he thinks what he did was right.
He also hinted that, plans are far
advance to close down the toilet as well because the citizens in the area are
not taking a good care of it.
